1Q09 CHAPTER DIRECTOR'S MEETING

Church of the Holy Nativity, Plano

February 21, 2009

On February 21, 2009, the Quarterly Meeting of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew Chapter Directors of the Dallas Diocese of the was held at the Church of the Holy Nativity in Plano. Chapters from across the Diocese were represented, including:

Epiphany - Richardson
Holy Nativity - Plano
Holy Trinity - Garland
Incarnation - Dallas
St. Barnabas - Garland
St. John's - Dallas
St. Luke's
St. Michael's & All Angels

The meeting began with an opening prayer followed by the introduction of the officers of the Dallas Assembly and introductions by the chapters attending. The introductions were followed by a review of the mission and purpose of the Brotherhood by Robby Gerber. He spoke of Christian men praying, sharing and serving together, then going out into the world to lead men and boys to Christ. The role of the officers of the Dallas Assembly of the Brotherhood is to help the Chapters grow. He posed three questions:

  1. What can we do to do our own mission better?

  2. What can we share with others?

  3. How do we grow our Chapters?

Don Candy gave a presentation titled “Four Categories of Diocesan Resources.” These are:

  1. Web Site

  2. Chapter Start-up

  3. Focal Point for Collaboration

  4. Liaison to National Brotherhood Organization

Group discussion focused on the importance of Rector support and participation of both youth and Hispanics.

Bruce Blais discussed the importance of the BStA web site to the Chapters in facilitating cross pollination and collaboration. The Chapter Directors were encouraged to send news items for posting. He also took several comments for improvement from the Chapter Directors. These included updating the calendar and including the discussion board.

Larry Maxwell discussed the Brotherhood’s history with and commitment to Habitat of Humanity. We hope to build our 14th house (in 14 years) during the period September 19 to October 9. The web site will have details. Larry noted that we will have to raise $40,000 to pay for the house. Most of the funds must come from the benefit golf tournament.

Jim Vineyard discussed the golf tournament. It will be held at Canyon Creek on June 2nd. The course is normally closed that day and would be specially opened. Assuming 120 golfers paying $150 each, Jim believe we might net $12,000. We hope to raise $28,000 from corporate sponsors. Jim is working on getting food donated. There would be two tee times; 8:00 AM and 1:00PM. The tournament will have three divisions: Corporate, Church and Open. We want a minimum of one golf team from each chapter and want each chapter to get at least one corporate sponsor. Corporate donation sought would be $500 and up. To sponsor a four some would cost $1,500 minimum. A golf committee is being formed. Chapter help will be critical to success.

Robby Gerber announced that St. Michael's & All Angels would be hosting the 2009 Annual Assembly on December 5th. Our National Chaplain, Bishop McPherson, will attend the Annual Assembly. We also have tentative commitments fro Bishops Stanton and Lambert.

Jon Browne - Assembly Secretary
