2008 ANNUAL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

 

 

On December 6, 2008, the Annual Meeting of the Dallas Assembly of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew was hosted by the Brotherhood Chapter at Church of the Epiphany in Richardson. The Epiphany Brothers provided a continental breakfast for the brothers attending the assembly. Churches from across the Diocese were represented.

 

Following breakfast, Fr. Bill Cavanaugh, Rector of Epiphany was the Celebrant at the Eucharist, assisted by Fr. Drake and Fr. Brown. Hymns were sung to a guitar played by Fr. Bill.

At the end of the service, the brothers processed from the church to "Amazing Grace" beautifully played on bagpipes by Brandon Moreno.

Retiring Assembly President, Pike Burkhart, of Holy Cross, Paris, gave a report on the Dallas Assembly and welcomed keynote speaker, Barry Rought, President of Province VII of the Brotherhood.

Brother Rought gave a stimulating and thought provoking talk on "Refocusing our efforts and refocusing on our mission." He also showed the new video developed by the National Brotherhood showcasing the work of the Brotherhood. The DVD contained scenes from assemblies and other gatherings and events throughout Texas, and highlighted the work the Dallas Assembly is doing with Habitat. 

Fred Manget presented Certificates of Appreciation to retiring Treasurer, Tom Bower and retiring President, Pike Burkhart.

Brother Jim Vineyard, gave a report on the Habitat Cadillac Raffle.

Brother Charles Turner gave an inspiring report on the prison ministry supported by the Brothers at Holy Nativity, Plano. Brother Turner encouraged support for the prison ministry by all Brothers in the Diocese.

Brother Larry Maxwell had an update on, and urged continuing support of the Annual Diocesan Habitat Ministry funded and coordinated by the Brotherhood. Larry also reported on the current finances of the Dallas Assembly and presented the slate of officers for 2009 recommended by the Nominating Committee.

The Assembly acknowledge the generous annual gift of Brother Bob Elliott of St. Anne's, DeSoto and his company, Festival Furniture, of a new washer and dryer to the Brotherhood's Habitat homeowner.

The above slate of Brothers was unanimously elected for 2009.
