Day 1, October 6, 2007
St. Luke's
The Lord provided a beautiful day for the crew from St. Luke's and
Victor TrezVant and his friends: a fall morning, a bit of rain and a
warm afternoon. The first wall going up on a new home for a Habitat
family is a joyous experience. The pictures below tell the whole
story. Victor's grateful smile (front row, center) tells us that the Lord's work is
underway on Homeland Street in West Dallas.
Once again this year our Habitat House Leader is Steve Erickson.
Steve's path to Habitat House Leader is a heart-warning story. In
the fall of 2004, Steve and Jonna (now Mrs. Steve Erickson) joined
Fr. Craig Reed and his crew from St. Andrew's - Carrollton to work on
the Diocesan Habitat House. Every year since, Steve and Jonna have
been have been a part of the Brotherhood Diocesan Habitat
Ministry. The way Steve and Jonna tell it:
"The experience was so great: to help a family have a home, to work
with others as the helping hands of God. We look forward to seeing
everyone again and encourage everyone to come out and become a part
of the Habitat experience."

Day 2, October 13, 2007
Epiphany - Richardson & Holy Trinity - Rockwall
Day 2 was a heavy lifting day on Homeland Street. Thanks to the hard
work of the folks from Epiphany and Holy Trinity, the trusses are on
the house and the porch structure is in place. And, plenty of work
was completed on the ground. Most of the blue board is installed,
and some hurricane clips (why hurricane clips in Dallas - maybe
tornado clips ? ? ? ) are installed.
We are delighted that Episcopal Parish School has joined the
Brotherhood / Diocesan Habitat Ministry and students and their
parents will be out next week. There will be plenty of work to do on
the ground, completing the blue board, interior blocking, running
the sub-fascia; and, more heavy lifting up top, installing trusses
on the garage and starting to deck the roof.

Day 3, October 20, 2007
Episcopal
Parish School
Thanks to the Habitat Club at Parish Episcopal School for an amazing
amount of hard work. A crew of 20 students and 6 teachers worked
with Victor, his family members and Steve Erickson, to complete all
assigned tasks, and then some more: all windows were installed, the
roof was decked with OSB, interior blocking was completed along with
the rat runs (whatever they are ? ? ? ), the A/C closet and attic
entrance were completed, and the remaining OSB and blue board was
installed on the exterior. The Parish crew learned to do new jobs
and found new abilities, pulling together to accomplish more than we
ever could imagine!

Day 4, October 24, 2007
McCarthy Building Companies
Many thanks to the wonderful folks from McCarthy
Building Companies for all their hard work on the new home of
Vincent and his family. It was no small task to lay tar paper and
completely shingle the roof in one day, but they did it. The
pictures tell the whole story. Victor and his family and the house
sponsors, the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and the Brotherhood of St.
Andrew really appreciate the contribution.

Day 5, October 27, 2007
Christ Church - Dallas, St. Andrews & St. Matthew's
The Lord provided another beautiful day for Habitat workers at 1854
Homeland. Many thanks to the men of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew at
St. Michael's for providing lunch for all workers. It was another
work day when the assigned tasks were completed and then some more.
Installing the new Hardiboard siding is a tedious task and most of
the siding is installed and the soffit is well on the way to
completion. The new home of the TrezVant family will be ready for
the Dedication on December 1st.

Day 6, November 3, 2007
Good Shepherd - Dallas & Redeemer - Irving
This was a day made by the Lord and the work crews from Good
Shepherd and Redeemer, Victor and his family and friends were glad
and rejoiced in it. Habitat volunteers are the greatest and Habitat
homeowners are wonderful folks. Sandra Porragas is comfortably
settled in her new home which was completed last November, and she
and her friend Luciano spend the day working on Victor's new home.
For lunch, Victor and his family provided chili dogs and nachos for
all workers on his house and his neighbor's house going up next
door. It was a beautiful and fun work day at 1854 Homeland: the
siding was completed (no small task), the exterior trim and caulking
is just about finished, ready for painting next Saturday.

Day 7, November 10, 2007
St. John's & St. Anne's
It was another beautiful work day at 1854 Homeland - a cloudy
morning, a light breeze and afternoon sunshine - truly a day made by
the Lord. A fun time was had by all - painting, painting, painting.
There were a few paint spills here and there, but most of the paint
went on the house. Fr. Houk arrived in a handsome pair of new blue
shoes, which our House Leader insisted that he show off. Fr. Corley
spent most of the day on a ladder - he liked painting the eaves. Fr.
Udell liked to paint in the tight spaces under the porch roof. Bob
spent the day painting shutters - his favorite thing to paint. Betsy
was the expert brush and roller cleaner for the day. Victor and his
family thank all of the wonderful folks from St. John's and St.
Anne's.

Dedication, December 1,
2007
The Lord provided a beautiful warm day to celebrate the dedication
of Victor's new home. There was a good turn-out, with
representatives from most of the churches and organizations
volunteering for construction. There was the usual dedication
program with remarks, the invocation and remarks by Fr. Cavanaugh,
introduction of the family by Larry Maxwell, the presentation of
gifts and remarks by Victor. The festivities continued with cake,
soda and snacks.
Thanks to all of our dedicated volunteer workers. The house is
finished and Victor will be moving in shortly.
