Day 1, September 6, 2008
St. Luke's & Holy Trinity - Rockwall
The grateful smile on the face of Lorraine Well tells us that the
Lord's work is under way in Fraizer Courts. The first wall going up
on a Habitat house is truly a joyous experience. Steve Erickson is
once again this year the House Leader. The way Steve tells it:
"The experience was so great: to help a family have a home, to work
with others as the helping hands of God. I look forward to seeing
everyone again and encourage everyone to come out and become a part
of the Habitat experience. Exceptional things are the work of many
people all doing a little to the betterment of another."
The Lord provided a beautiful day and the enthusiastic folks from
St. Luke's and Holy Trinity completed the assigned tasks: the house
is framed, the sheathing is installed and wrapped with blue board.
Next Saturday, Work Day 2 will be another day of heavy lifting and
on the ground work: trusses will be loaded, windows installed, the
porch structure completed, interior blocking and hurricane clips (
known as tornado clips in North Texas).

Day 2, September 13, 2008
Junior League ladies and other volunteers
A little thing like a hurricane is not going to stop Habitat
volunteers. Thanks to several lovely Junior League ladies and other
hardy volunteers, most of the assigned tasks for the day were
completed. The trusses are installed, the windows are in place and
the porch framing is completed. At lunchtime the winds and rain of
Hurricane Ike picked up and work was halted for the day. Lorraine
Wells is delighted to see her new home taking shape.

Day 3, September 20, 2008
Epiphany - Richardson
Hurricane Ike has come and gone, and construction of the new home
for Lorraine Wells and her family is back on schedule. Many thanks
to Father Bill and the wonderful, hard-working folks from
Epiphany-Richardson. Sheathing and blue board is on the gables, the
interior blocking is completed, and the roof is decked and the felt
is in place. Lorraine's new home is ready to be "dried in" (as they
say in the construction world).

This coming Saturday, Work Day 4, the folks from St. John's-Dallas
and St. Andrew's-Farmers Branch will be installing roof shingles and
drip edge, and prepping for the vinyl siding. We owe a special
thanks to Habitat's Wednesday and Thursday volunteers who helped us
get back on schedule.
Habitat's 51 home project in Frazier Courtyards will contribute
greatly to rejuvenate a neighborhood southeast of Fair Park, which
is sorely in need of new development. The homes are smaller than the
typical Habitat house. The homes are 850 sq.ft. of air-conditioned
space, with attached garages. The houses are ideally suited for
elder citizens and grandparents rearing grandchildren. The Margaret
H. Cone Head Start Center is nearby and the Julia C. Frazier
Elementary School is a block away.

Day 4, September 27, 2008
St. John's - Dallas & St. Andrew's - Farmers Branch
The Lord provided another beautiful day for the good folks from St.
John's and St. Andrew’s to work with Lorraine Wells, building a new
home which she will be purchasing for her family. As Lorraine says:
"It’s a dream come true", and she is so thankful and really
overwhelmed that so many people come out every Saturday to help make
her dream come true.
Kingdom Building Activities are underway on Joseph Wiley street. A
neighborhood which is sorely in need of rejuvenation is being
transformed. Nine Habitat houses are presently under construction,
and when completed the neighborhood will have fifty-one new homes.
On this day, our clergy exchanged their collars for hammers. Many
thanks to Fr. Corley, Fr. Reed and a special thanks to Fr. Lee and
the hard workers from his Korean congregation at St. Andrew's.
It was truly an amazing day. A bunch of die-hard Longhorn football
fans were installing shingles on the roof rather that watching the
Longhorns stomp Arkansas. It was a bitter-sweet day for Bruce Blais,
the Brotherhood's webmaster, and our lone Florida Gator brother, as
his alma mater went down in defeat.
The house is on schedule and will be ready for the Dedication on
November 8th.

Day 5, October 4, 2008
Good Shepherd - Dallas
On this day the Lord provided a hint of fall in the early morning,
then the warm October sun shone forth in all its glory. Thanks to
the good folks from Good Shepherd and to several of our good
neighbors from State Farm, Lorraine's house is staying on schedule.
During the week the roof shingles were completed and a new energy
efficient foam insulation was installed. Lorraine’s new home will be
energy efficient. The sheet rockers are just about finished with
their work.
The siding is going up and will be completed next week along with
the siding trim, and paint preparations will begin. Ouch, nailing
into that galvanized stripping can be hard on thumbs, as Lorraine
found out. But, always with a smile on her face, she was back on a
ladder installing siding.
Next week our wonderful, hard working crews from St. Matthew's and
Christ Church - Dallas will be working with Lorraine on her new home
on Joseph Wiley Street. Longhorn and Sooner fans, you may want to
bring your radios along, as Lorraine doesn't have her TV hooked up,
yet ! ! ! And, be sure to bring your lunches and drinks for
everyone.

Day 6, October 11, 2008
St. Matthew's & Christ Church - Dallas
Bright and early every Saturday morning, ever smiling Lorraine Wells
is busy at work on her new home. Joining Lorraine on this beautiful
morning were Dean Kevin Martin and folks from St. Matthew’s
Cathedral and a group of hard workers from Christ Church - Dallas.
Installing the siding is fun work, but gosh it’s meticulous work.
Measure three times and cut once. On this day a portion of one wall
went up once, and came down once, Oops! ! ! and went up again.
Hallelujah, Praise the Lord, the siding is up.
Thanks to Dave, Habitat’s Construction Superintendent, our wonderful
Americorp workers and Habitat's weekday crews, the interior of
Lorraine’s house is coming along nicely and the exterior is ready
for paint. Attention, folks from St. Anne’s - DeSoto and Redeemer -
Irving, wear your painting clothes next Saturday.

Day 7, October 18, 2008
Redeemer - Irving & St. Anne's - DeSoto
It was another beautiful day on Joseph Wiley Street in Frazier
Court. Fr. George and Ted Carrington from St. George's and Roger
Hogle and his crew from Redeemer - Irving spent the day helping
Lorraine paint her new home.
Two coats and all the trim is painted, and it's looking great. At
the end of the work day Lorraine said "I can't wait to move in and
clean my home. The Wednesday and Thursday crews are finishing the
interior work, the landscaping will be completed next
week. Lorraine is ready for the Dedication on November 8th, and
she'll be moving in to her new home in mid November. She says she
can't wait.

Day 8, October 25, 2008
Good Shepherd & St. Michael's - Dallas
The Lord provided cool, crisp air in the morning and warming
sunshine the rest of the day. This was a day made by the Lord and
Lorraine and her family and friends from Good Shepherd and St.
Michael's rejoiced it. The landscaping is almost completed, After
the utility hook-ups are completed, Lorraine's front yard will be
nicely landscaped with fresh sod, two trees and a flower bed around
the house. Thanks to the men St. Michael's Brotherhood of St. Andrew
for providing lunch. And, a special thanks to the hard working folks
from Good Shepherd for coming out for their second work day.
Saturday, November 8th will be a busy day on Joseph Wiley Street.
The remaining landscaping on Lorraine's home and all new homes will
be completed. All Habitat volunteer workers are welcome to help lay
sod, plant trees and arrange flower beds. At 2:30 that afternoon,
Bishop Stanton will officiate at the Dedication of Lorraine's new
home.

Dedication, November 8,
2008
It was another beautiful day made by the Lord. On this day of bright
sunshine, the hopes, dreams and prayers of Lorraine Wells were
fulfilled. Kenny Rogers, a member of the Board of Directors of
Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity and of the Brotherhood of St.
Andrew, welcomed the guests. The Right Reverend James M. Stanton,
Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas gave the Invocation, and
Lord George Carey, retired Archbishop of Canterbury, London, England
gave the Benediction. That's a first for the dedication of a Habitat
house.
Following the presentation of gifts by many folks who helped
Lorraine build her new home and remarks from Lorraine and her
family, refreshments were served and everyone toured Lorraine's new
home. House Leader Steve Erickson put together a wonderful slide
show with pictures telling the story from Work Day 1, September 6,
to the day of the Dedication.
Lorraine's was at a loss for words to express her true feelings. The
dedication of a Habitat home is really a joyous occasion, filled
with smiles and some tears - - of joy. A beautiful plaque was given
to Lorraine and her family by Diane Ragsdale, representing the
Intercity Community Development Corporation: Appropriately, the
plaque reads: BLESSINGS - Thank God for what you have and Trust God
for what you need.
Many thanks to all who have participated in the Diocesan Habitat
Ministry 2008, contributing your time, your talent and your
treasure. God's work is underway in Frazier Court and throughout the
City of Dallas, as partners with Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity
are rejuvenating neighborhoods and developing new neighborhoods. We
are just the hands of the Lord, at work building His Kingdom.
Peace of the Lord be Always with you.
