Day 1, September 26, 2009
Good Shepherd - Dallas & St. Anne's - Desoto

The Lord provided a beautiful day to begin construction on the new home of Danny Jaquez and his family. Thanks to the hard work of the wonderful folks from Good Shepherd and St. Anne's, along with Danny, Irma and a number of their friends, the tasks for the day were completed: the framing is completed, the sheathing is installed, the porch beams are in place (no small task), and the blue board is started.

Here is a group photo of the crew from Good Shepherd.

Walker Trigg, who has been a Habitat House Leader for many years, is doing a masterful job of overseeing the build. Walker has a great sense of humor, reminding folks that we will build it, and if necessary, we will correct it. Fortunately, on Day 1, not much correcting was necessary.

The team getting their instructions first thing.

In the beginning, there is just a slab.

Then the first wall goes up.

The wall is anchored to the slab.

More wall sections are carried into place.

Then the sections go up!

With in an hour, one side is nearly complete.

By the second hour, the exterior and interior framing is well underway.

By lunch-time, the framing is substantially complete.

Lunch time and a well-deserved break.

After lunch, it's back to work getting everything straight.

Here are a couple of the family members hard at work.

Getting the sheathing on.

Installing the porch beams.

Cutting out the windows.

And the progress report.

Day 4, October 17, 2009
McCarthy Building Companies

Day 4 was the day the roof got finished. The crew from McCarthy came prepared to do some of the heavy work.

Inside, the "blue-board" in the attic was finished and "insulation stops" were installed at the end of the trusses to keep the insulation out of the soffits.

The "Red Shirt" crew from McCarthy.

Below is a shot of Lina leading the daily kick-off meeting

Harnessed up and heading to the roof. The McCarthy crew uses fall protection while working on the roof.

Here is the first "D ring" for the fall protection going on.

With the "D rings" in place, the crew got started on shingling.

. . . . and they kept on nailing.

By mid afternoon, the job was well on its way.

Epiphany - Richardson & Holy Nativity - Plano

The tasks for the day were to finish siding, finish the trim and do the exterior paint prep.

Here is the trim and siding cutting crew hard at it.

More "cutting crew" action.

A happy bunch of volunteers, but it's early in the day.

More smiling faces.

Fr. Bill in a different role than normally seen. From the smile, it seems to fit him well.

Looks like lunch is served.

Lunch and a chance to take a break.

And some prefer lunch in the shade.

After lunch, it's back to work.

The crew from Epiphany and Holy Nativity made good progress.

Day 7, November 7, 2009
St. John's - Dallas, St. James - Dallas with St. Michael's - Dallas providing lunch

The tasks scheduled were to finish all Paint prep, any remaining trim, and paint the house. When the team arrived they found the house was about a week behind schedule so they put away their paint brushes and got out the hammers and saws.

The day started out cool and cloudy but cleared up and warmed up nicely by lunch time.

As usual, it began with the customary kick-off meeting by Walker.

Some got right to work on calking. As Walker says, "A little calking and a little paint makes it what it ain't."

Others got to work on finishing the siding. Here is Bob and Dave "roof crew" hard at it.

Those in the air needed some ground support to cut panels.

Others worked on making window trim.

While the "roof crew" was at work with the siding on the west side of the house, the "ladder crew" was hard at it on the east side.

And on the north side, another crew was doing the sheathing and trim.

Walker provided some "expert advice" to Zad while Jay looked on.

Another calking team hard at it.

At noon, it was time for the lunch provided by St. Michael's & All Angels.

Here is part of the crew enjoying a well-deserved break.

Another part of the crew chowing down.

And few folks enjoying desert.

After lunch, it was back at it.

It was a great day and the team made good progress. The AmeriCorps volunteers got the house painted during the week and back on schedule.

A group of guys about to put that tree in its place.

Shrubs going in up front.

Some serious shovel work.

Keeping things straight.

And the final clean up.

Dedication, 1:30 PM, Saturday, December 5, 2009

The dedication of our 14th home was conducted after the Annual Assembly. The weather was quite cool and there was a good wind, so everyone was bundled up.

Once everyone was there, Ken wasted no time in getting the festivities under way.

First there were the opening remarks.

Then the gifts were presented.

Next was the dedication prayer by Bishop MacPherson.

The group photo just before we went in for cake.

And finally, the credits at the end of the production.
